Kate is a concert artist, worship leader, songwriter and violinist. She grew up in a musical family, where she studied classically, but also played fiddle and sang in her family bluegrass band.
Kate’s songs are very much a reflection of her life experiences with God.In sharing about her music, Kate says, “I believe God is calling me to write songs of faith, humility, honesty and surrender.God has done such a healing and grace-filled work in my life!I am learning that my walk with Him is about the journey / wrestling we do with God along the way. It’s my heart to write from an honest place.I pray that these songs would reflect this process and touch the human heart, lifting it longingly to God."
Kate’s latest album, HERE, definitely does just that. The listener is unexpectedly disarmed and taken to a deeper place of the heart, where Kate’s lyrics, and tender yet sometimes haunting melodies, express the spiritual tension of trusting God with the unknown and seeing Him in the darkness as well as in the light. Yet throughout the entire project, there is an abiding sense of God’s peace and mercy – that He can redeem the painful places in our lives. And Kate should know.
“As a teen, I really struggled," Kate remembers. “At one point, I ended up in a violent and controlling relationship with a boyfriend. We looked like the perfect couple, but I was living in a private world of physical, emotional and verbal abuse. I wanted to tell my parents, but couldn’t. It wasn’t until I was in college that I was finally able to break it off. God was amazing and provided the support I needed to be strong and stick with my decision. It was also at this point that I really started growing in my walk with God."
Kate’s hunger for God eventually led her and her husband, Jeff, overseas to
Budapest, Hungary, where the Whites served with Church Resource Ministries for nearly 10 years. While in
Europe, the Whites helped plant two churches and Kate grew in songwriting, worship and song translation; singing and playing on local, national and international worship teams. She also recorded two projects there that reflected a journey of honesty with God and eventual healing called JOURNEY– one in English and one in Hungarian.
Kate shares, “Our time in Hungary was life-changing for me. The Hungarian people are so genuine, and my soul hungered for this kind of relationship with God and with others. They poured out their hearts in times of need and in worship. As I grew in my own expression to God, He began to pour Himself out through me to others in worship as I sang and played. He also poured His healing touch into my own heart."
About her musical styling, Kate acknowledges, “I’m a mixture of Enya, Alisson Krauss and Paula Cole. My songs are mostly acoustic-driven with definite Celtic, Hungarian and
Bluegrass influences along with some pop/rock or country stylings.
In response to Kate’s CD, one of her fans wrote, “There is a transparency with God and a spiritual maturity in her music that speaks to my heart so deeply. I didn’t expect to go there. It’s as if she knows what I’ve been longing to say to God but didn’t know how. Kate’s songs and instrumentals have connected me emotionally with the hope and redemptive mercies of God. I use her CD now when I have my quiet times to help me enter into fellowship with God." To this Kate says, "I was so humbled when he said he was using my CD in this way. As a project, I couldn’t imagine a greater purpose than to draw others closer to the heart of God. It’s my prayer that HERE would do just that."
